Image by @joelsartore | This #pollinatormonday is all about keeping our pollinators happy and healthy. As farmers become more efficient at eliminating all plants other than corn, beans and wheat from their fields, there are fewer and fewer places for milkweed and nectar-bearing plants to grow. Important pollinating insects like the butterflies and bees need these plants in order to survive. Without these pollinators, we lose much of our ability to grow the fruit and vegetables we eat.
That's why it's so important that homeowners step and 'get growing' now in their backyards by planting a pollinator garden, and taking care of lawns and gardens organically. You'll be amazed at the results, and the good feeling you get knowing that you're doing your part in helping to preserve biodiversity right at home. And remember, “organic” means no chemicals should be used on your lawn like pesticides or weed killers. These not only kill plants and animals, but are detrimental to your health too as the chemicals migrate away from your yard and into groundwater. It’s time to get planting, and get natural. What are you waiting for?
Keep on posting your pollinator garden and monarch pictures with the hashtag #pollinatorhero and see what we can #SaveTogether!

educateempower's Instagram Photo - The baby animal book by Jennifer Cossins is a colorfully illustrated story which takes us on a journey to teach us about the different names that baby animals have.⠀
⠀
What do you call a baby penguin? Or a baby owl? Or a baby peacock?⠀
⠀
We were surprised by the different names given to each baby animal and as a challenge are going to try and commit these to memory . This challenge won't be too hard as Jennifer Cossins' illustrations are not only fun to look at but they are also detailed yet not too overwhelming. These illustrations allow the reader to see how the animals move, how they might care for each other and the different colour between parents and children.⠀
⠀
The baby animal book is a wonderful addition to Cossins other books (A-Z of endangered animals and 101 Collective nouns) which again are informative in a simple manner yet engaging and inspiring.⠀

We also visited Virunga on that same journey and the conservationists and rangers work over there should be more supported. meat_your_future's Instagram Photo - A fishing crew in New Jersey caught a 12 ft, 926 lb shortfin mako shark, apparently the “biggest" catch in the history of the state.
▫️
The owner of the boat said he had “waited 35 years for [the] moment”.
▫️
But how much longer can we *wait* for humans to stop decimating other animals?
▫️
Already, since 1950, a staggering 90% (NINETY PERCENT!!!) of all large predatory fish in the ocean have vanished.
▫️
And we’re still KILLING MORE THAN 10,000 SHARKS EVERY SINGLE HOUR, primarily due to our global appetite for “seafood" as sharks (and countless other aquatic animals) are killed en masse as non-targeted “by-catch” in commercial fishing operations, for the shark fin trade, and in recreational fishing.
▫️
Why must we exterminate these creatures who roamed the oceans since even before dinosaurs existed? Why must we exploit and harm every single species on the planet?
▫️
Please just leave the sharks alone. Leave fishes alone. Leave animals alone. And that means, among other things, not eating them.
▫️

veterinary_adventures's Instagram Photo - Many koalas are admitted into wildlife hospitals to be treated for chlamydial disease. There are two species of chlamydia that can infect koalas, each can cause ocular (eye) or urogenital (urinary and reproductive systems) disease. The ocular disease can cause blindness is left untreated.

Xavier, was admitted into the Koala Hospital presenting with severe chlamydial bilateral conjunctivitis. The tissue around his eyes was thickened and inflamed, completely covering his eyes. After surgery and 6 weeks of treatment, he is now left with minimal vision and because of this he cannot be returned to his home range. However, he will always have a place at the Koala Hospital and gets hand fed extra treats each day.❤️
