Young & Frustrated: Yohanix Spring/Summer 2017 Concept Korea NYFW .
A treasure trove for editorial pulls, Yohan Kim’s collection for Concept Korea is about “Defining One’s True Self.” It draws from Kim’s frustration with people who aspire to be accepted unconditionally, while simultaneously only accepting perfection from others. His label, YOHANIX, takes a high-low approach to design .
For this Spring/Summer 2017 season, he blended elegant lace fabrications with t-shirts and grunge imagery .
Embroidered medieval fonts spelled out plaintive German messages like, “Herr vergib uns,” and “Nur Gott kann uber mich urtielen,” which translates to, “Lord forgive us,” and “Only God can judge me,” respectively .
Representative of lost and headstrong youth culture, Kim mirrors this in frayed denim with button-front legs, patchwork constructions, laced eyelet closures and silver hardware .
Speaking to his own generation, the response to the YOHANIX runway show can only be met with mutual understanding and acclaim .
