A Great White Shark swims along the surface in the waters off South Australia. The largest predatory fish in the sea, the Great White remains somewhat enigmatic, with many of its behaviors and much of its life unknown.
TODAY, the new book - โ€˜SHARKโ€™ by @BrianSkerry - will be released! Filled with photos and Brianโ€™s personal experiences from nearly 4 decades photographing sharks, the book aims to highlight these amazing animals in a new light; as incredible creatures that are valuable to the health of our planet.
Available wherever books are sold.

travelsinjland's Instagram Photo - Last week was spent celebrating science and conservation. It doesn't get better than that--unless of course, you're actually out in the woods and wild saving it. #natgeofest was a perfect time to take a fresh look at challenges, share new ideas, and enjoy each other's excitement about what we can all do next. Here's to incredible friends as passionate as you, and to making a difference where we can!

L-R: 2017 Emerging Explorer, Danielle Lee, who is making lives better for the bomb sniffing rats that are saving countless humans; 2017 Emerging Explorer, Mateus Mutemba, Park Warden who was instrumental in the revitalization of Mozambique's Gorongosa National Park; and 2017 Emerging Explorer and 2016 Grosvenor Teacher Fellow, Joe Grabowski, who is doing all of the work to bring Explorers into classrooms all around the world and much more than just #exploringbytheseatofyourpants and my co-conspirator in shining some overdue light on Joe's work, Alison. ๐Ÿ˜„

parks4all's Instagram Photo - Happy first day of summer! Let's celebrate the beginning of the (kind of) warm season by awing at these sun-kissed gray fox pups! These kits emerge from their den at Muir Woods National Monument nearly every day to soak in--and play in--the sun. A must-see for any cute animal lover!
Also, it's important to note that these are wild animals. While their fox parents established a den at a highly trafficked part of the park (near the entrance), we as humans need to take an extra level of responsibility to treat them as wild animals and minimize our interaction with them. (Photo by Curran White)

masungigeoreserve's Instagram Photo - Neil Tyson was honoured with the Hubbard Medal at this year's National Geographic Festival.

At the ceremony, Neil talked about how space exploration has given us a new vista, a new perspective, of our dear Earth. Reflecting on wars waged in the name of religion and politics, he said, "I cannot overstate how absurd that was from space." Swipe left to see more photos of this amazing night in honor of amazing explorers. Yes, the Paella which found its way to the center of this album also deserves immortalising. #natgeo #natgeoexplorers #natgeofest

ourgeographic's Instagram Photo - Photo and caption by petekmuller. A hearty congratulations to adjanycosta, Assistant Director of Nat Geo's @intotheokavango project, who was named a 2017 #EmergingExplorer at the National Geographic Explorer's Festival in Washington, DC. In this picture we see Adjany moving through the grass as she collects fish samples along the upper reaches of the #Cubango River in her home country of #Angola. Beyond being an extraordinary ichthyologist (fish biologist), Adjany is, in many ways, the beating heart of the Okavango Wilderness Project. Her intensely human, emotional connection to her work underlies her focus and devotion. Even when she was sick with malaria, Adjany found encouraging words for the rest of the team. She takes little rest and expects no praise. Few are more deserving than she of this important honor. Follow the intotheokavango team as they survey the headwaters of the Okavango Delta with the aim of protecting them for future generations. #Africa #conservation #biology #biodiversity #science #exploration #expedition #natgeofest #natgeo #human #hero #people #real #life #like #respect #share #followme #photojournalism #photoofday

benmirin's Instagram Photo - It was an incredible honor to attend and present for the National Geographic Explorers Festival. Creating a path as you go is exhilarating, but it is even more exciting when you find new friends in that uncharted water, all simultaneously drawing the chart! Everyone in this community isn't just accomplished, they are supportive, vulnerable, and honest about what it takes to get there. They have left me inspired, humbled, and motivated. But they haven't really left me at all. ๐Ÿ“ท: Ari Beser at #NatGeoFest @natgeo
