It was my birthday on Tuesday so now I can legally poison myself 😄🎉 But in all seriousness, I don't drink often, and don't plan to now that I'm legally able to. Alcohol is horrible for muscle growth and development, along with its many other negative health consequences. I have had many people my age ask how to lose weight and gain muscle, but they're simultaneously binge drinking 3 or more days a week. You will not see significant gains or weight loss if you're drinking that much. Alcohol has almost twice as many calories as protein and carbs, and these calories are all empty(non-nutritious). Alcohol also damages the stomach, kidneys, and liver, which play a huge part in your metabolism. Slow metabolism = slow fat loss. Alcoholic drinks also reduce testosterone. Testosterone contributes to lean muscle mass gains, and an increased metabolic rate. (Yes, ladies, you have testosterone too) Not to mention the increase in appetite due to the lack of nutrition. People tend to eat fatty foods, and more of them while intoxicated. All in all, alcohol is arguably a fun drug to use socially every once in a while, but binge drinking frequently is not a good idea, and will lead to an unhealthy body. Fitness is not a temporary thing, it is a lifestyle choice that you have to be conscious about. What you put in to your body, you get out. Make good choices, kids!
